Sensors track everything from tire temperature and pressure to suspension travel, brake temperatures, throttle and steering input, and engine performance metrics, generating enormous amounts of data across even a single practice session.
Turning Data Into Setup Changes
Engineers review this telemetry between sessions to identify where a car is losing time, whether that’s a specific corner, a braking zone, or a mechanical issue developing before it becomes a failure. This directly feeds setup adjustments for the next session.
Comparing Drivers and Teammates
Teams overlay telemetry traces from different drivers on the same car to see exactly where one driver is faster than another, whether that’s braking later, carrying more speed through a corner, or getting on the throttle earlier, turning subjective feel into objective comparison.
Predictive Maintenance
Data acquisition also helps predict component wear before a failure happens, similar in principle to the reliability challenges discussed in the role of hybrid power in endurance racing, where catching a developing issue early can save a race that would otherwise end in retirement.
