Arvid Lindblad became the first driver to crash at the new Madring circuit, going off in the closing stages of Friday’s second practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Racing Bulls rookie lost control of his car at Turn 13 with less than half an hour remaining on the clock, striking the barriers hard enough to leave the car heavily damaged. Race control called out the red flag so recovery crews could clear the debris safely.
The stoppage lasted roughly ten minutes. Once track conditions were confirmed safe, drivers were sent back out for the final ten minutes of the session.
Lindblad’s shunt was the first major incident at Madring since cars began running there this weekend. Early sessions had already flagged the new layout as demanding for drivers.
The crash adds another wrinkle to a busy few weeks for Racing Bulls, whose driver lineup heading into the Madrid weekend has already been a talking point.
FP2 continued after the restart, with attention turning back to lap times ahead of Saturday’s qualifying session.
